India is the popular land of colors, spicy food, friendly people, Ganges river, religions, holy buildings, and recognizable sites. It's no wonder why millions of people visit this Asian country every year.

But that's why these travelers should always check if it's necessary to get a visa before entering India. Passport holders from more than 150 countries can now apply for their Indian Electronic Travel Authorization online, better known as the Indian Electronic Visa.

The Indian Government has made the process really easy, and best of all, you can apply for an electronic visa by using a smartphone or computer from anywhere in the world. On this page, we will explain what changes have been made with this new system.

What is an Indian Electronic Visa?

The India Electronic Visa is an official document that gives you the same authorization as a traditional visa: You can legally enter the country. The only difference is that the e-Visa is electronically linked to your passport.

How many types of Indian e-Visas are there?

There are 3 types of Indian e-Visas that you can apply for:

  • e-Tourist
  • e-Business
  • e-Medical visa.

You apply for these electronic visas by completing an easy-to-use online application form found here at iVisa.

How long are the Indian e-Visas valid for?

It will depend on the type of visa. The 30-day, 1-year, and 5-year tourist visas have different validity. Check out our blog for comprehensive information on India Tourist e-Visa validity and length of stay.

However, the Medical eVisa has a different rule, in the sense that you cannot stay for periods longer than 60 days in Total in India but you will get Triple Entry.

What requirements are needed to apply for an Indian e-Visa?

These documents can vary according to the type of visa.

In the case of a commonly requested tourist visa, you'll require:

  • Applicant's photo
  • Passport page
  • Last page of passport (if applicable)

But with a Indian Medical e-Visa, the documents vary a little, being necessary:

  • Hospital Letter (if applicable)
  • Applicant's photo
  • Passport page
  • Last page of passport (if applicable)

Lastly, the Indian business e-Visa doesn't change that much in comparison to the tourist visa, the only difference is that you'll get your visa for business purposes only.

What are the changes regarding Indian Electronic Visas?

A few changes were recently made by the Indian Government to improve the tourism industry by simplifying the application process for everyone who wishes to travel to India.

The India Electronic Visa now allows you to stay in India for 180 days Per Entry (an increase from the previous 30 day allowance) and in addition to the increase in number of days that you can stay, the tourist/business visas now comes with Multiple Entry and the medical visa comes with Triple Entry.

Also note that these Indian visas are now valid for 30 days after arrival and allows you to stay for a maximum of 180 days Per Entry within India.

What are the prices for the Indian e-Visas?

The prices can vary since they will depend on your nationality, the type of visa you need and how fast you want it too. iVisa gives you three options for that: Standard, Rush and Super Rush.

Here you will find what are the prices for a Tourist e-Visa if you have an American passport. Nevertheless, we recommend you to check a precise price, which can be easily found here.

  • Standard: This is the most requested option due to its price. You'll have to pay USD $65.29, and you'll get your visa in 4 days.

  • Rush: This is a bit faster and changes the price a little. It has a price of USD $110.29, but you'll get your visa sooner, in 2 days.

  • Super Rush: The last and also the fastest option that clearly changes the price more. It costs USD $166.29, but you'll receive your visa as soon as 30 hours can be.
