Do I need a visa to visit New Zealand?

This depends on your nationality. If you are from a visa-exempt country, you must first apply for an ETA. To check your eligibility for the ETA or to verify if you must acquire a visa to enter New Zealand, you can use our Visa Checker Tool. Just choose your nationality and New Zealand as your destination, and the information will display in seconds.

Which visa types are there for New Zealand?

New Zealand has five common visa types: the ETA, New Zealand Visitor Visa, New Zealand Student Visa, New Zealand Work Visa, and New Zealand Resident Visa.

Here are more specifics on each of the New Zealand visa types:

  • ETA: This document is not a visa but a visa-waiver, that grants visa-exempt nationals the authorization to enter and stay in New Zealand for a maximum of three months. You can apply online for one.

  • New Zealand Visitor Visa: This is the most common visa for those who need one. Only people from non-visa waiver countries must apply, as well as travelers from visa-waiver countries who want to stay in New Zealand for longer than three months.

  • New Zealand Student Visa: This document allows you to enter New Zealand to study and stay in the country only for the duration of your course. Work is permitted, but the number of hours you can work is limited.

  • New Zealand Work Visa: If you are interested in getting a job in New Zealand, you need to apply for a work visa. For your application to be approved, you usually need a job offer and your line of employment must be on the skilled work list.

  • New Zealand Resident Visa: Those with a Resident Visa for New Zealand have the same rights as citizens. You can work, study, and live in New Zealand indefinitely. As you can see, there is more than one type of New Zealand visa. You must apply for the one that best suits your circumstances. iVisa can help you to apply online for an ETA.

To apply for any of the other visas, contact your nearest New Zealand embassy or consulate.

What are the requirements to apply for the New Zealand ETA?

We will require just a few documents:

  • Valid passport: It must be valid for six months upon arrival in New Zealand.

  • Arrival and departure dates

How long can travelers with an ETA stay in New Zealand?

For foreign citizens with an ETA, the maximum stay is 90 days Per Entry. It’s a Multiple Entry document valid for two years. Remember that with this document you are NOT allowed to seek paid employment. All your visits must be for tourist reasons.

What are the processing times and costs of the New Zealand ETA?

With iVisa, applicants have three available options when it comes to processing time. This will determine the cost of the application. The three options are:

  • Standard processing: Receive your ETA in 2 days, for USD $90.99 in total.

  • Rush processing: Your ETA will be ready in 6 hours. The fee is USD $136.99.

  • Super rush processing: Your ETA will be ready in just 2 hours, for a total of USD $193.99.

How can I apply for a New Zealand ETA online?

The application form is straightforward, and it will take you less than 10 minutes to fill out. Just follow these three simple steps:

  1. Complete the application and pick your preferred processing time.

  2. Review your info and pay the processing fee.
