Are you planning to visit Uganda? You can start your travel plans by applying for a valid visa for the trip. Foreign nationals must meet the visa requirements to get the document to present on arrival. You can apply for a consular visa at the nearest Ugandan Embassy or Mission, but US passport holders are eligible to apply online using the electronic visa system.

If you apply for a Uganda e-Visa, the e-Visa system gives you two options: the East African Tourist Visa and the Uganda Tourist e-Visa. In this article you can read additional information about the differences between these travel documents, visa requirements, and how to fill out the Uganda e-Visa application.

Uganda Visa for US Citizens

The visa is part of the immigration control in Uganda, and it is a mandatory document to visit the country. But the good news is that US travelers can obtain a visa in a few clicks with the online application for e-Visas.

The e-visa system is a significant improvement in the visa process and facilitates travel for tourists. Unfortunately, there are still some visa types to enter Uganda that you can only get with consular services. Check below for which one you should get.

GETTING A UGANDA VISA AT THE EMBASSY

This method is losing popularity fast. That is because you need to go to the Uganda embassy in the United States, and depending on where you live, the trip can be quite long. Once you get there, you need to stand in line and wait your turn to fill out an application. You must also pay the fee. Once you complete the form, you submit your application and wait for your visa to arrive.

The processing time can take a few weeks, depending on the institution’s processing time. The entire consular application is bureaucratic and takes a lot of your time. But if you have a business travel schedule or need to obtain a work visa, this is the only option.

Otherwise, citizens traveling for tourism have a simple alternative: the e-Visas. The application is online, and the travelers receive the document via email, so it’s possible to apply from anywhere, anytime.

Address for Uganda consular visas in the United States: Permanent Mission of the Republic of Uganda to the United Nations - 336 East 45th Street in New York.

WHAT IS THE EAST AFRICAN TOURIST VISA?

One of the e-visa options for tourists is the East Africa Visa. This e-Visa allows traveling to the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, and the Republic of Uganda for tourism with a single application process. It’s a Multiple Entry visa, so you can enter the three countries as often as you wish during the document’s 90 days after arrival of validity. The East Africa Tourist Visa permits US citizens a maximum length of stay of 90 days in Total.

You must pay attention to one detail to get this visa online: travelers must not have another current Uganda, Rwanda, or Kenya visa. If you meet all the requirements, you only need a few minutes to complete the form. After the processing time, you will receive the document via email. Then you can print it to present the document on arrival. It is easier and quicker when you don’t have to go to the embassy!

WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO APPLY FOR THE EAST AFRICA VISA FOR FOREIGN CITIZENS?

The traveler needs the following documents to apply for the East Africa Visa:

  • Applicant photo. If you don’t have one, you can count on iVisa Photo Service

  • Passport personal details scan (the passport validity must be at least six months after the arrival date)

  • Last page of passport (if applicable)

  • Yellow fever vaccine

  • Travel itinerary

  • Return ticket

  • Invitation letter (if applicable)

WHAT ARE THE PRICES AND PROCESSING TIMES OF THE EAST AFRICA VISA?

If you apply through iVisa, the processing time and visa fees for the East Africa Visa will depend upon how fast you need your document:

  • Standard processing time: In9 days, you will receive the visa for a fee of USD $161.99.

  • Rush processing service: iVisa can process your visa a little faster, in 7 days, for a fee of USD $199.99.

  • Super Rush processing time: If you need the visa asap, the best option is to get the document in only 5 days for a fee of USD $253.99.

WHAT IS THE UGANDA TOURIST EVISA?

Another option if you are going to travel to Uganda as a tourist is the Uganda e-Visa. Most international travelers are eligible to apply for this tourist visa online. All you have to do is fill out the form on the iVisa application page with the documents required and your personal information. Once the processing time is finished, you will receive the electronic visa via email.

The Uganda Tourist e-Visa is valid for 90 days after issued. The document allows a Single Entry and a maximum stay of 45 days in Total. Please note that the Uganda Tourist e-Visa allows travel for tourism purposes only, and applicants can’t have any other current Uganda Visa to apply for this document.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO APPLY FOR THIS UGANDA E-VISA?

You must have on hand the following documents to fill out the Uganda Tourist e-Visa application:

  • Applicant photo. If you don’t have one, you can count on iVisa Photo Service

  • Passport personal details scan (clear passport number)

  • Last page of passport (if applicable)

  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate

  • Invitation letter (if applicable)

  • The immigration status of the host (Purpose of travel: Family Visit) (if applicable)

  • Return flight ticket (if applicable)

  • Supporting document for the visit (Medical) (if applicable)

  • Cover letter detailing the purpose of the visit (if applicable)

WHAT ARE THE PRICES AND PROCESSING TIMES OF THE UGANDA TOURIST EVISA?

You can choose one of the processing times and fees below to get your Uganda Tourist e-Visa:

  • Standard processing time: Get your Tourist e-Visa in just 7 days for a fee of USD $121.49.

  • Rush processing service: This option is slightly faster and takes just 5 days for a fee of USD $166.49.

  • Super Rush processing time: For those urgently needing a Uganda Tourist e-Visa, we offer this option, which takes just 3 days for a fee of USD $230.49.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A UGANDA E-VISA

Once you meet all requirements to apply for an e-Visa, the process is quite simple. The East Africa e-Visa and Uganda e-Visa have similar applications; the difference is the information and documents you must submit (check above). To fill out the form, you must follow these three steps:

  • First, read all the information, and fill in your details. Then, choose the preferred processing time for the e-visa.

  • Second, double-check and verify your information to avoid any mistakes. After that, pay for the iVisa service fee.

  • Third, attach any documents required and click on the ‘submit’ button to apply for your e-Visa. Once you successfully apply for your electronic visa, you will receive a receipt and confirmation of the final e-Visa.
