French citizens fall under the list of visa waiver countries when entering the US for short-term travel purposes. They only need to apply for an ESTA before they arrive in the country.

What is the US ESTA?

The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is an automated system that assists in determining eligibility to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and whether such travel poses any law enforcement or security risk. Upon completion of an ESTA application, a traveler is notified of his or her eligibility to travel to the United States under the VWP.

How long can French citizens stay in the USA with an ESTA?

You can stay in the US for 90 days Per Entry. The ESTA is a multiple entry permit and is valid for 2 years after issued.

What are the documents required to apply for the ESTA?

We require the following to submit your application:

The passport must be an electronic passport with a digital chip containing bio-metric info.
Travelers must have a passport with at least 6 months validity from the planned date of entry.
Passport holders must also provide their passport number and Personal Identification Number (PIN).

How can I apply for a US ESTA?

Step one: Provide your personal information, like name, address, and passport info. Then, select the processing time that best suits you.
Step two: Make the payment and review all information provided during step one. It is essential that the info you give us is accurate and spelled correctly. Corrections are only possible if your application has not reached the processing stage. Once your visa is ready, corrections are no longer possible, and you will have to go through the process again.
Step three: A personal questionnaire and photo upload. Depending on your circumstances, you may be notified to upload some additional documents.

Then, submit your form and wait for your ESTA to arrive via email.

Do my children need to apply for their own US ESTA?

Yes, accompanied and unaccompanied children (regardless of age) require their own ESTA prior to their travel to the U.S. Children listed on their parent's passport do not qualify for an ESTA. Children must have their own (unexpired) passport in order to qualify for an ESTA.
